Listening to New tunes

My family provided me with lots of music this Christmas. My most favorite has been the new Nanci Griffith cd's. The stories in her songs bring back memories of living in Mississippi. Back then we wore those fluffy petticoats that stood out and made our waists look oh sooooo skinny. Of course, I was oh soooo skinny back then. Nanci Griffith has a song about a Woolworth store and it reminded me of the old Woolworth store I used to go into on my way home from school. I would walk in and I could smell the mixture of candy, hamburgers from the lunch menu, double bubble, and floor wax. I would walk up and down the aisles looking at the cotton slips and stockings. I would turn the corner and come upon the aisle that had toys. There they sat all lined in little piles. The packages of jacks with red bouncy balls. I was a fabulout jacks player when I was in elementary school. Part of me wanted to be all grown up and wear stockings and makeup, but part of me wanted to stay back and play jacks. Anyway, Nanci Griffith's songs brought back lots of memories of the old "Five and Dim e" I used to visit every afternoon after school.

Sausage making with Kirk

Yesterday Kirk made venison sausage with a great deal of help from Jessica and Emilie. Emilie had never done it before and told Kirk during the Christmas Holidays that she wanted to help him when he decided to make it. I must say that I was delighted that he had someone who wanted to help, because I would have been the "mixer, cranker, stuffer, and labeler" had she not volunteered. Jessica labeled all the packages as they were brought in. Later in the afternoon Gwen, Rob and Camaryn came to visit and we had fried chicken for lunch. Ya'll should see that little girl eat fried chicken and french fries. After lunch she wanted to go out with Jake, and as soon as Gwen got out the door with her, she wanted down. She made a bee-line for the swimming pool and would have jumped right in had Gwen not been right behind her. She loves water. She splashed in the fish pond and would have jumped into it as well. Looks like Dandy will have to get a flotation device for her when she is here. Lordy, she made me nervous. She took a ride in the wagon we have here. We have a new wagon here because Poppie had a really hard time putting it together and made a slight mistake attaching a wheel, ultimately causing him to go back to the store and buy a new wagon which he put together correctly this time. Long story, short---we have a wagon at our house just like the one Camaryn has at her house. I call that "screwing up in reverse." Sometimes it works out OK!!!!

I am not lost!!!

I realize that it has been a very very long time since I have written to everyone, so I am here to say I'm back. I THINK. Things at school will be very hectic this semester until TAKs is over. We are starting already. Mac has the honor of field testing this years TAKs. I really wished that another school in our district would take on that chore. Our poor kids!!!!
God love them, though, they hang in there with us. They are the best. I have been looking at the newest pictures of my beautiful granddaughter--holy moly--she is sooooooo cute. A head full of teeth and walking all over the place. I have been thinking of a new tradition she and Dandy should do for spring 1. plant daffodils 2. dye Easter eggs. It's a thought. Hopefully, it won't be so long between now and the next time that I write.
